Good to know before you go

Lush green forests and open meadows surround the community of Westbridge. This is a land made for outdoor adventure. In the spring, you’ll be greeted by waves of colourful wildflowers. Visit in the summer and hike and bike to your heart’s content. Come fall, the colours return, only this time in reds and yellows of larch and poplar trees. It is the perfect spot for a picnic or an outdoor adventure vacation.

Just across the West Kettle River bridge is the Christian Valley, a semi-arid region that receives substantial snowfalls in the winter. You can explore Christian Valley by driving north-east from Westbridge along a section of paved road that changes to a gravel forestry road.

There’s plenty of nature to go around, so bring your camera. Bear, deer and moose are often found grazing along the highway. Once you’ve had your fill, spend the night at a cozy B&B, a working ranch, a log cabin or at a provincial campground.

Where to Find Us

Westbridge is just 13.5 km (8.4 mi) north of Rock Creek and 35 km (22 mi) south of Beaverdell on Highway 33. You’ll find it near the bridge that crosses the West Kettle River.

The Great Outdoors

Outdoor fun is the name of the game in this part of Boundary Country. The Kettle Valley portion of the Trans Canada Trail is just south of Westbridge, where it follows the Kettle River.

Travel north on the Trans Canada Trail, and you’ll come to Rhone, approximately 7 km (4.4 mi) from Westbridge. It’s here you’ll find Paul Lautard’s War Memorial, which is a great stop for cyclists. Look for the caboose of the Blythe-Rhone road on your left.

There’s some great fishing in these parts. On either side of Westbridge you can cast your line and hook some rainbow trout in the Kettle and West Kettle Rivers.

Try your hand at windsurfing at Conkle Lake Provincial Park. Motorized watercraft are restricted on this 3 km (1.8 mi) long lake, giving you much deserved peace and quiet. In addition, there’s also great fishing here.

In the winter, strap on your snowshoes and explore area trails in this winter wonderland. This area receives moderate snowfall, and the Kettle River Recreation area is a good starting point to cross-country or snowshoe the Kettle Valley Rail Trail.

Stay with Us

There are several different types of accommodation in the Westbridge area. Private and provincial campgrounds, log cabins, B&Bs and a working ranch give you some attractive options.

Little Dipper Hideaway

This bed and breakfast is also a campground near the West Kettle River. It’s been around since 1992 and has a log cabin and camping with tables and firepits. Spend your days fishing and swimming, or hiking and biking on the Trans Canada Trail. Tents and RVs welcome. The Little Dipper Hideaway is easy to get to, and they also speak English and German!

The Old Cowboy Ranch

Located a mere 3 km (2 mi) from Westbridge, along the Kettle River banks, is the Old Cowboy Ranch. This ranch is a working ranch right alongside the Trans Canada Trail. They have large campsites right on the Kettle River for tents, campers, trailers and full-size RVs. Maybe you’d prefer something less rustic. If so, you can stay in their two-bedroom, two bathrooms, winterized guest house.

You’ll find yourself sharing some of this outdoor space with horses, cows, pigs, llamas, alpacas, goats, a donkey, and a mule. Then there’s the fancy chickens, geese, ducks, emus and over 60 peacocks!

They have a gift shop here too. Also, the ranch offers bicycles for rent and trail rides and horseback riding lessons. Located at 3175 Highway 33, this unique ranch is open year-round.

Conkle Lake Provincial Park

Many a memory has been made at this quiet campground. There’s a beautiful white sand beach and a boat launch here. The Conkle Lake Provincial Park campground features a trail that goes to the lake’s end and follows the shoreline. Bring along your fishing gear, as it is stocked with rainbow trout fry. In addition to fishing, you can try something different and windsurf here. The southerly crosswinds are perfect for it.

Kettle River Recreation Area

Explore the 179 hectares of the Kettle River Recreation area! It’s a great spot for you to enjoy canoeing, cycling, fishing and hiking. In the summer, jump on in and enjoy a cooling swim. There’s a playground here, and they have vehicle accessible sites, as well as some pull-throughs.
